Hot Home Trend #1: Metal Accent Pieces

Adding decorative items in silver, gold, or oil-rubbed bronze is definitely on trend. Consider a variety of pieces in areas throughout your home. You could have a metal basket in the kitchen, a shiny vase of flowers in your bathroom, or a serving tray in your dining room.

There are lots of places to add these decorative pieces including:

  • As a conversation starter or focal piece on a coffee table (see photo above)
  • On a hutch or sideboard
  • On a bathroom countertop
  • On your dining table

Hot Home Trend #2: Bold Wall Colours

Greige is out and bold wall colours are in. Instead of painting a feature wall (those are ‘out’ too), the trend is to add strong colours on all the walls of your room.

Just image, your dining room with Dulux’s Paint Colour of the Year: Night Watch. That would look stunning!

Or, what about your living room with Benjamin Moore’s Paint Colour of the Year: Metropolitan.

Maybe Farrow & Ball is more your style. Then you’ll love the intensity and warmth of their Salon Drab.

There are lots of great choices out there for bold wall colours!

Hot Home Trend #3: 90% White, 10% Everything Else

white living room with neutral accents

White is a colour (not a shade) and white is where it’s at! The trend in 2019 is to have almost everything in your room white, with only splashes of colour.

Remember, white doesn’t have to be stark. There are shades of white and textures too!

  • Try pairing a white sectional with bold, coloured accent pillows.
  • Accent a white coffee table or white hutch with natural accents, like a wooden bowl.
  • Add a pure white countertop in your kitchen.
  • If your wooden ceiling or flooring is a looking a little worse for wear, try giving it a whitewashed paint for a cottage look.
